3 Days in the Swiss Alps: Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald & Beyond

Dreaming of snowy peaks, alpine meadows, and postcard-perfect villages? This 3-day itinerary is your introduction to the Bernese Oberland region — one of the most iconic and stunning areas in the Swiss Alps.

Here’s how to make the most of 3 days in and around Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald.

Day 1: Arrive in Lauterbrunnen & Explore the Valley 

• Check in to your hotel or guesthouse in Lauterbrunnen , the valley of 72 waterfalls
• Visit Staubbach Falls — walk to the back for incredible misty views
• Walk or bike the scenic valley floor trail to Trümmelbach Falls (inside a mountain!)
• Dine at Hotel Oberland or Airtime Café for a cozy local meal

Overnight: Lauterbrunnen

Day 2: Day Trip to Mürren + Schilthorn Viewpoint 

• Take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen → Grütschalp → Mürren
• Mürren is a charming car-free village with epic views of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau
• Continue up to Schilthorn (Piz Gloria) for panoramic 360° views (famous James Bond spot)
• Optional: Walk the Thrill Walk at Birg (suspended bridge on a cliff!)

Afternoon Option: Return via Stechelberg and walk back through the valley

Overnight: Lauterbrunnen or move to Grindelwald for next day

Day 3: Grindelwald & First Cliff Walk Adventure 

• Morning train to Grindelwald , the adventure hub of the region
• Take the gondola up to First
• Do the First Cliff Walk by Tissot (adrenaline views!)
• Optional hikes:
  • To Bachalpsee Lake (~1.5 hrs round trip)
  • Or thrill-seek with the First Flyer zipline
• Return to Grindelwald for lunch, chocolate shopping, and relaxed evening views

Overnight: Grindelwald or return to Interlaken if continuing your journey

Tips for This Itinerary

• Get a Berner Oberland Pass if doing multiple trains/cable cars
• Wear good hiking shoes and bring layers (even summer evenings are chilly!)
• Pack snacks — mountain cafés are cute but pricey
